how to make a 4 yearold in New England cry...

So I figured out a new way to make my daughter cry last weekend. Last Saturday was opening day for little league baseball. Every kid who plays ball from the ages of 4 to 13 gets on their uniform and assembles at one of the ball parks to parade with their team and then stand along the first and third basepaths while the boosters honor last season's all star team. The national anthem and 'Take Me Out to the Ball Game' is sung. Every kid gets a little plastic American flag to wave.

but, if you count yourself as a member of this clan, you likely already know that. The following flyer was attached to my door last weekend:(last names, phone numbers and addresses blocked out to avoid legal action...)

For those of you who are interested in The old homestead:
If you think of anything around here that would go well at your house,
please come with a shovel or trowel of container. I have some old roses
spirea, pineapple bush and flowering quince.

Here's a photo of Grace @ 2 month's old...she's about twice that size now and getting into twice the amount of trouble.

The Washington Ear

There's no photo for this entry because it's a pretty solitary occupation. But you can imagine me sitting in a little studio reading the paper out loud for an hour. And you can hear my voice any time you please by going to www.washear.org, selecting the archives and choosing the Monday 2pm program of the Washington Times newspaper.

Nathan's Chocolate Factory

On one of Nathan's visits East he brought chocolate. Theo's Venezuela 91% cacao special limited edition was unsweetened and so I didn't eat it. I made it into brownies using the Joy of Cooking recipe (slightly altered}. MMMMMMMMM! Quite a different, smoother flavor. Thank you, Nathan!
