California travel

This is a bit dated, but Michelle and I went to California for a few days in late May. I'd been asked to deliver a short speech for the graduates of my MA program at San Diego State University. It was a nice trip, visiting all our old haunts. We also took a day trip to Los Angeles to visit some of Michelle's side of the family. Here's a picture we took with our NEW (rental) CAR! Hope everyone is well, keep us posted.

Help return this camera to its family

Please repost this link around, in the hopes that the forgetful family will click it and get their camera back:

Thanks for coming 'down south'!

Michelle and I really appreciated everyone who ventured south to our place this past Saturday. It was nice to mark the milestone with all our family and friends. We hope everyone enjoyed the food from Paul's Pasta in Groton, and of course the "tunnel of fudge" birthday cake!

Please visit this web photo gallery and take the time to upload any pictures you may have from Saturday. As always, Michelle and I were VERY happy to see everyone.

NYC Hacker Conference

 2600 Magazine Hacker Van
Ed and the Hacker Van: 2600 Magazine Hacker Van

Eddie attended The Last Hope, a hacker conference in New York City, with his friend Sean. New York city in the summer time is hot and stinky, but spending a weekend in the city is always a good time. The Hackers were some of the nicest people I've ever met. They were helpful, interesting, and left each other alone.

One of the most interesting talks was given by Algormor, who decided to put a camera inside his luggage to film what the TSA was up to behind the security perimeter. I linked to his site from my new site, bagcam.org. Some really cool video there!

The Last Weekend in June

I was sitting reading The Fountainhead, and a cool breeze blew through the window. The breeze carried just a hint of Southern New England, but enough to transport me back over twenty years to a platform tent in Rhode Island, where my brothers and I spent the first week of the summer at Boy Scout camp - Yawgoog Scout Reservation.

Promotion Monday!

Well, it was bound to happen if I stuck around long enough. I'm getting promoted, probably my last one. The press release has gone out, the new insignia have been purchased. Even the scrambled egg hat is ready to go. So Monday, 9 June 2008 is the fateful day.

Funny Words (from a fellow military academy grad):

1. A bicycle can't stand alone; it is two tired.

2. A will is a dead giveaway.

3. Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana.

4. A backward poet writes inverse.
